Scores Feared Dead in Attack on Mararaba Community Near Abuja
Mararaba, Nasarawa State — March 26, 2026
A tragic attack has been reported in Aso A community, located near Jumai Estate in Mararaba, a boundary area between Abuja and Nasarawa State, leaving several persons feared dead and many others injured.
According to eyewitness accounts and local sources, the violence began in the early hours of Wednesday and has reportedly claimed no fewer than six lives, although the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed at this time.
Preliminary information suggests that the incident may have been triggered by an earlier confrontation between a farmer and a herder, which allegedly resulted in the death of the herder. In what appears to be a retaliatory attack, suspected armed herdsmen reportedly stormed the residence of the fleeing farmer, unleashing violence on residents and setting several houses ablaze.
Efforts by members of the community to resist the ആക്രമ led to further escalation, resulting in additional loss of life and widespread destruction of property. The situation has forced many residents to flee their homes, seeking refuge in safer locations within Abuja and neighboring communities.
Security operatives, including a combined team of police and military personnel, have since been deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order. However, tension remains high amid fears of possible reprisal attacks, with reports indicating that more armed individuals may be mobilizing from nearby Keffi.
In a related development, a motorcyclist transporting a police officer to the affected area was reportedly ambushed and killed by the attackers.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, and efforts to obtain comments from the Divisional Police Officer of Aso A Police Division were unsuccessful as of the time of this release.
The public is urged to remain calm, avoid the affected areas, and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore peace and stability.
