The **Institute of Security and Forensic Studies Nigeria (SFSN)** was established as a professional body under the applicable provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 1990, with the mandate to promote professional standards, ethical conduct, discipline, and accountability among its members in the fields of security management, criminal investigation, forensic science, intelligence gathering, and related investigative disciplines.
The Institute recognises that, over the years, the effective regulation, monitoring, and professional development of security and forensic practitioners have presented significant institutional challenges. These challenges have reinforced the need for a structured professional framework capable of strengthening investigative competence, enhancing forensic practice, and promoting the application of evidence-based methodologies in the prevention, detection, investigation, and resolution of criminal and security-related incidents.
SFSN was therefore established out of a profound commitment to advancing the study, practice, and professional application of security management, forensic science, intelligence operations, and criminal investigation across Nigeria's public and private sectors. The Institute seeks to foster a culture of professionalism, integrity, technical competence, and respect for the rule of law within Nigeria's security architecture.
Through professional training, continuing education, research, certification, ethical oversight, and the promotion of internationally recognised investigative principles, SFSN aims to strengthen the capacity of security personnel, forensic practitioners, investigators, and intelligence professionals to respond effectively to emerging security threats and complex investigative challenges.
The Institute's strategic objective is to promote the inclusion and recognition of qualified security and forensic professionals within the security management structures of the three tiers of government—Federal, State, and Local Government—as well as within relevant private-sector institutions. This objective is intended to support the development of a competent, accountable, and professionally coordinated security workforce capable of applying modern investigative techniques, forensic intelligence, crime-scene management, digital forensics, and evidence-based decision-making to contemporary security challenges.
